This office, like so many, suffered from an overly neutral color pallet and lacked a sense of warmth. The owner of this business wanted a functional and comfortable office, but most importantly, he wanted an office that he was proud to invite guests in to for meetings. I started by adding a medium brown color to the walls which instantly warmed the room, then gave the existing furniture a slight re-arrangement to create a more welcoming environment. A new area rug anchors the furniture and the touches of red in the lamp and other accents liven up the space. The business owner is also a fantastic photographer so printing and framing some of his own work was the perfect solution to the need for art on the walls. Tip #1- Using your own photography as art is an easy and cost-effective way to inject a personal touch to any space. Tip #2- It’s all in the lighting. Overhead fluorescent lighting is nobody’s friend! Light your office the same way you would light your home...with lamps...and compact fluorescent bulbs, of course. I promise, just changing your lighting will have a positive effect on the way you feel (and look) in your office.
Giving his staff a place to relax, take a break, and eat some lunch was also a priority so an update to the break room was in order. The same brown paint was used to create the stripes on the wall which are a fun backdrop for more of his framed photography. The addition of a new table and chairs gives the space a contemporary feel while the red lockers are quite functional and reinforce the new color scheme of the adjacent office.
